Preventing Sunspots

Preventing sunspots:

Do you regret chilling and relaxing under the sun in the summer because your sunspots are more noticeable? Don't! I have here some helpful tips to treat or prevent sunspots.

What are sunspots?

1. sunspot is a spot or patch appearing from time to time on the sun's surface, appearing dark by contrast with its surroundings. You have probably noticed that during the summer is when the spots start to become more visible.

1. Sunscreen- Sunscreen is not only super important for sunspots, it is also what protects the skin from the sun.

2. Limit exposure to any type of sun- Everyone thinks of sunspots as the same thing—spots from the sun. But with new research I have found that not only will direct UV rays, but the heat given off from the sun, will stimulate melanin activity, which causes brown spots. Sadly, no matter how cautious you are about applying sunscreen, wearing a hat and staying in the shade, you still may not be able to avoid pigment from occurring. As for those of us who live in the southern states where the weather is hot, this is a problem. If brown spots are a concern for you, you’ll definitely want to limit your exposure from both the sun and the heat.

3. Keep the skin cool and happy- Overheated skin can increase melanin activity, it’s important to keep the temperature of the skin low. A perfect idea is to keep your skin care products in the refrigerator, so that when applied to the skin, they provide a nice cooling effect. A gel mask is also a great option. Don’t have a gel mask handy? A bag of ice applied to the skin for 15 minutes can also help to cool overheated skin.

4. Exfoliate- One of the keys to discoloration, is to use exfoliating products such as facial scrubs and mild alcohol-free exfoliating acids such as glycolic acid and salicylic acid found in AHA Smoothing Serum 17% or BHA Clarifying Serum. Exfoliants, when used everyday, can help break apart the pigmented cells and will lessen their appearance. Be sure not to overdo it with exfoliating products, because during the summer when melanin cells are active, too much exfoliation may actually trigger more melanin and cause problems.

5. Use a natural skin lightener- In addition to exfoliation, applying a skin lightener to the skin will help hold down and stop (what colors your skin, hair, eyes) cells to fade and prevent annoying brown spots. Lots of skin lighteners contain the ingredient hydroquinone. Vitamin C & E Treatment contains this ingredient, and has worked very well for stubborn coloring.

Blackheads, The DO'S and DON'TS.

Blackheads are small bumps that appear on your skin due to clogged hair follicles, usually a mild type of acne mostly form on the face but can make a presence on other parts of the body; such as
  • back
  • chest
  • neck
  • arms
  • shoulders.
Some factors that increase the chances of these developing acne and blackheads could be:

  •  producing too much body oil
  • the build up of Propionibacterium bacteria on your skin.
  • irruption of the hair follicles when dead skin doesn't shed on a regular basis.

  • undergoing hormonal changes increase oil production during the teen years, during menstruation or when under birth control pills.

Other factors include:

  • the blocking or covering pores by cosmetics and clothing
  • heavy sweating
  • shaving and other activities that open the hair follicles
  • high humidity and grease in the immediate environment
DO'S FOR BLACKHEADS.

Most people manage their blackheads at home without needing to see a doctor, but some activities can make them worse or trigger a more severe type of acne.

CLEANSING: Special scrubs for gently exfoliating the face can help; look for fragrance free, and for sensitive skin and try to avoid anything that may make overly skin dry.

MAKE-UP AND COSMETICS: Use the non-comedogenic products that don't clog the pores, instead should keep the pores clean and open to avoid the buildup of dead skin.

FOOD: Research has not confirmed that cutting out fries or chocolate either will or will not reduce acne, but a healthful, balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables is beneficial for overall health.

DON'TS FOR BLACKHEADS.

Hormonal triggers can make blackheads unavoidable, but some factors can increase the risk or make them worse.

SQUEEZING: Avoid squeezing blackheads, even with a metal blackhead remover, as this can irritate the skin and make the problem worse.

SCRUBBING: This can worsen the problem. Scrubbing removes sebum. The sebaceous glands then work harder to replace the sebum, leading to more blockages and the risk of inflammatory acne.

REMOVERS: Removal strips, masks, and vacuums should be used with caution, as these can irritate and damage the skin if misused.
