Why to always remove make-up before bed

As a woman I can definitely say that one of the most annoying things to do is having to remove my makeup before bed. You get home exhausted, ready to lay in bed and then that sad moment  of "Omg I still have makeup on" hits you. ALWAYS remove your make up before bed girls or you'll suffer the consequences I will state below!

1. You WILL break out

If you don't cleanse your face, dirt and dead skin cells are not removed and will stay overnight. They stay on the skin, clogging pores and leading to chronic inflammation in the form of pimples.

2. You'll probably look like a zombie the next morning/ or hideous crows feet!

If you've ever woken up in the morning, looked in the mirror, and wished your skin looked brighter, you not removing your makeup the night before you hit bed is most likely the problem. Oils and dead skin cells on the outermost layers of the skin are matted up against the pillow all night, and natural turnover of this dull epidermal layer is diminished. Regular cleansing and exfoliation are necessary to revealing healthy new skin cells and allowing the natural repair processes of the skin to occur and it could cause crows feet!

3. Your skin will look older — and you'll have more wrinkles.

Dirt and makeup trapped against your skin cause environmentally-induced oxidative damage. This leads to a breakdown of the skin barrier and prematurely ages your face.

4. If you have acne, it'll probably might make it worse.

While cleansing is an important step in anyone's beauty regimen, it's especially key for those who have temperamental skin. For those with oily skin, like acne patients, sleeping in makeup could worsen their skin conditions.

5. You could put yourself at risk for an infection.

While you sleeping in your makeup may not cause an infection,  if you already have an active skin issues, such as an inflamed acne pimple, it's possible that an infection can occur because your skin barrier is compromised.

6. You could develop a rash.

Makeup often contains irritants like dyes and perfumes that, when left on the skin for long periods of time, can cause inflammation especially for those who have sensitive skin.

With 15 + years of experience, this skincare tip is one I mention to my clients often!

How healthy is meditation / yoga for your body ?

The goal of meditation isn't to control your thoughts, its to stop letting them control you.

What is meditation / yoga?

Meditation is a practice where one uses a technique such as their mind, body and soul, to attract a clear state of mind and feel refreshed. This is for the mind to be as clear as a sky can be. Yoga is also a practice where you learn how to control your breathing and ascetic discipline.

Benefits of yoga

The relaxation techniques help with a lot in your body such as
  • Lower back pain
  • headaches
  • arthritis
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
Last but not least will reduce insomnia and lower blood pressure, for those of you that do have it high up there.

Benefits of meditation

These specific practices you do while meditating helps with many different things that you might have going on such as
  • stress
  • compassion
  • sleepless nights
  • not enough focus
  • very moody

If you have any of these, I would highly recommend to start some yoga classes and then let us know how it went and what has improved.

Here are 12 Skincare Resolutions you Should Make for 2019.

It’s a new year, which means the majority of us are making New Year’s resolutions and setting goals to improve ourselves. Many lists include hitting the gym more and eating lots of leafy greens, but there’s more to New Year’s resolutions than being healthier. Now is also the time to make some beauty resolutions.
it’s always good to take a look at your routine and see if there are any areas that need improvement. Chances are, there are a few.

Take off your Makeup Every Night.

Removing your makeup basically requires as much effort as putting on your pajamas, but it’s much more important. No matter how tired you are, resolve to properly cleanse your face before you go to sleep every single night (no cheating!). If using a cleanser and water takes too much effort, opt for a time-saving cleansing wipe instead. Your skin will thank you.

Make Wearing Sunscreen a Daily Habit.

If you’re going to have only one beauty resolution this year, it should be to wear sunscreen every day. Regularly wearing sunscreen protects your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays and the premature signs of aging. Commit to applying sunscreen 365 days a year, including the winter months. Not wearing sunscreen because you don’t like the formula isn’t an excuse: these top-rated sunscreens aren’t greasy or chalky.

Don't Forget About the Rest of your Body.

We’re often so focused on our faces that we tend to neglect the skin on our bodies. You may think that soaping up with your body wash and loofah is sufficient, but that probably isn’t enough. Try to show your body the same love as your face by using body scrubs regularly and remember to moisturize.

Get to Really Know your Skin and it's Needs.

After living in your skin for so many years, you may think that you know it inside and out, but do you really? Do you know what your undertone is? Do you know whether your skin is oily, dry or a combination of the two? You may think that you do, but it’s worth consulting an expert, like a makeup artist or dermatologist, to figure out things for sure. That way you’ll be able to choose products that are better suited to your needs.

Moisturizing, Make it a Priority!

Moisturizer is as important to your skin care regimen as your cleanser. It doesn’t matter whether you have sensitive, dry or oily skin, you need to apply moisturizer regularly. You even need it in the summer months. If you don’t like using moisturizer because you find it greasy, there are lots of lightweight formulas that won’t clog your pores to choose from.

Exfoliate Daily!

As great as your moisturizer is, it cannot do all of the work. You need something that will remove those dead skin cells that build up. That’s where exfoliating comes in. You can choose whatever tools or products you like, the important thing is that you make exfoliation a regular part of your routine as opposed to something you do every couple months when you remember.

Do NOT Pick your Face!

This is one of the harder ones to quit, but doing it will majorly benefit your complexion. No matter how tempting it is, make it your goal to stop picking your face. That includes squeezing pimples, removing blackheads and scratching scabs. Remind yourself that messing with your face just creates additional problems, including more breakouts and even scarring.

Store your Properly.

Finding a good spot to store your beauty products is about more than organization or decorating. It’s also about maintaining the products themselves. FYI: Storing your products in an Instagram-worthy spot often isn’t the optimal place for them. Many cosmetics can deteriorate if they’re exposed to light, humidity or extreme temperatures, so choose a location that will help preserve them and keep you organized.

Get Rid of Expired Products.

Toss out any expired beauty products. If you don’t remember when you bought it, toss it. Same goes if it has a funky smell or has changed color. It doesn’t matter how expensive it was, throw it in the trash.

Don't Switch Products Constantly.

Results are never instantaneous. You might need to wait six weeks or more to notice any changes in your skin, so resolve to give new products time to work before moving on. The only exception is if you try something and it gives you an allergic or cosmetic reaction.

Get enough Sleep!

You may already have this resolution on your list, but it’s important from a beauty perspective too. Getting a full night of sleep doesn’t just prevent raccoon eyes, it is also the time when your skin regenerates. If you want to further improve your skin while you catch some zzz's, you can try an overnight beauty product.

Here are some skincare tips that will help you close off the year the right way!

With the new year upon us, it's a great time to look over your beauty routine and see if there are any resolutions you can adopt for even better skin in 2018. In some cases, the best thing you can do is avoid pitfalls of the past to make sure you're setting your skin up for success.

  • Beauty Shouldn’t Hurt

Regardless of what beauty magazines and well-meaning skincare professionals say, skin shouldn’t get worse before it gets better. Red, sensitized skin is always a sign of distress—if your exfoliant, retinol, or skincare product causes this reaction, it’s time to change your routine. It could be as simple as switching to a lower-strength exfoliant, but check all your products’ ingredient lists to be sure skin-sensitizing ingredients (like denatured alcohol) aren’t to blame.
  • Play it Cool While Cleansing

Avoid using hot or ice-cold water while cleansing: Both are damaging to skin, can lead to lingering redness, and prolong the staying time of acne. Lukewarm water should get the job done with any type of cleanser—and be sure to gently dab, not rub, your skin dry with a soft towel.

  • Skip the Long Bath

Long baths are relaxing for your muscles and your mind, but prolonged soaks stress your skin! When skin shows visible "pruning," it’s a sign of a compromised skin surface—Surprise! Too much water is damaging to skin. Too much time in the tub literally breaks down skin, keeping its surface from holding on to healthy substances like cholesterol and ceramides. These serve as the mortar that holds the "bricks" (the protein portion of your skin) together, keeping it feeling smooth, soft, and pliable.

  • Kick the Addiction to Scrubs

Scrubbing away at skin like you’re trying to remove bad wallpaper is one of the most common ways people hurt their skin—it’s an antiquated way to exfoliate.

While AHA or BHA exfoliants are the best way to exfoliate skin, you don’t have to give up using a scrub altogether—just avoid those that are overly harsh, abrasive, or otherwise poorly formulated. Think of scrubs as an extra measure of cleansing, and always be gentle when using them on your face and body.

  • Pass (on) the Bar Soap

Bar soaps are always a bad idea for skin because of the residue they leave behind—blame the ingredients used to keep them in solid form: This filmy residue can initially feel good on skin, but with regular use it can worsen dry skin. If that weren’t enough, the alkaline pH level of bar soaps sensitizes skin.

  • Dump Your Abusive Skincare Products

Moisturizers, serums, sunscreens, and other products that contain skin-aggravating ingredients (like alcohol or fragrance) are easy to fall for. But, over the long-term, their drawbacks far outweigh any benefits—and your routine becomes a cycle of treating one concern (for example, acne) while developing another (for example, dry skin). Kick these abusive beauty products to the curb and don’t look back!

  • Perfume Has Nothing to Do with Skincare

We’ve all said it at least once in our lives—"I love this moisturizer, it just smells so good!" Unfortunately, what pleases your nose doesn’t make your skin happy. Highly fragranced products (whether from "essential oils" or other sources) may smell lovely, but they stink when it comes to keeping skin in top shape.

  • More is Not Always a Good Thing

Even a well-formulated product has the potential to do harm if it’s overused, so heed the directions for your exfoliant, retinol, or anti-acne solutions and experiment to find the balance that’s right for your skin.
Signs that your skin has had enough include a tight, lined, or pulled appearance (especially on waking up in the morning), redness, peeling, or sensitivity.

  • Peel Now, Pay Later

Whether done at home or in a professional setting, facial peels can be a helpful part of a routine, especially when uneven skin tone is a concern. However, if you’re getting AHA, BHA, or other types of peels too frequently (or opting for ones that are too strong), their benefits can backfire.

Mild peels done at home should not be performed more than once or twice per month; deep peels performed by a doctor should be limited to once per year at most. The goal is to never tip the scales in favor of sensitizing skin, so use this type of exfoliation in moderation.

  • Sunscreen is the Best Anti-Wrinkle Cream

Sunscreen is not nearly as flashy as the current beauty products being hyped on the market, but sunscreen has anti-wrinkle benefits that no other skincare product can touch. Unprotected sun exposure is the #1 cause of early skin aging, including wrinkles, sagging, and uneven skin tone. Want to look as young as you can as long as you can? Sunscreen is a daily necessity, 365 days per year, even if it’s cloudy—and your anti-aging products will work much better if you routinely shield your skin from ongoing exposure to daylight.

Here are 10 Useful Tips on How to Take Care of your Skin During the Winter.

Winter can wreak havoc on your skin making it dry, itchy, and irritated. And it can feel like there’s no escape: Cold, blustery conditions outside can leave your skin feeling raw, while indoor heat zaps moisture from the air and from your skin.
Even things that make winter beautiful, such as sitting by a warm fire can dry you skinned though taking a hot shower might seem like a good idea to warm up, it actually takes a toll on your skin, stripping it of it's natural oils.

But there are many ways to maintain your skin radiant and combat the causes of dry skin by keeping your skin feeling moist and supple all season long; this could include changes to your everyday routine such as after taking a not so hot shower blot your skin and apply a thick layer of moisturizer to seal the water into your skin.

Here are some other useful things you can do to protect your skin.

  • Invest in a humidifier to maximize the moisture:

Using a humidifier at home or in your office will add moisture to the dry winter wind and keep your skin hydrated. Run the humidifier through the rooms you spend the most time in including your bedroom.

  • lower your thermostat to avoid dryness

When it is chilly out, first thing you might think of is to crank up your thermostat; but this could backfire because the central heat can make the air in your house even drier. Instead try setting it at a comfortable 62-72 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Limit your time in the shower and temperature.

As tempting as it sounds to take a long steamy shower, your skin will be served with a 5-10 minute lukewarm shower or bath. You should also avoid using excessively hot water when washing your hands, washing your hands with cooler hands appear to be as effective removing bacteria and germs. When using a public restroom, when drying your hands use it until your hands are damp rather than perfectly dry.

  • Opt for gentle, fragrance free cleansers.

Using the wrong soap can worsen itchy, dry skin. For example regular soaps may contain irritating ingredients and fragrances. Instead look out for a fragrance-free cleanser, moisturizer or gel. Skin problems could also be prevented by using less soap overall, limiting its use to only the necessary areas.

  • Change your facial care routine for the season.

During winter months its recommended to use cream based cleansers and to apply astringents and toners sparingly. Majority of astringents contain alcohol which can further skin dryness.

  • Moisturize frequently, especially your hands.

Maintain healthy skin by moisturizing after washing up. "It's best to use a cream or ointment in the winter. Lotions are better in warmer, humid climates. Applying a hand cream after each washing can help.
Wearing waterproof gloves when washing dishes or cleaning around the house.

  • Apply sunscreen even if it is cloudy.

Before you go outside, apply a moisturizing, broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to all exposed areas of your body. And don’t be fooled by darker, dreary days in winter, either. The sun’s harmful UV rays can permeate clouds and still cause damage. it’s just as important to be applying sunscreen in the harsh winter weather as it is in the summer.

  • Wear comfortable clothing, nonirritating clothes.

Many cold-weather fabrics can aggravate dry winter skin. Keep wool and rough clothing from directly touching your skin, they can cause dry skin to get irritated and itchy. wear light layers made from soft, breathable materials directly against your skin, and then pull on your heavier, warmer sweaters. Be sure to protect your hands from cold winter air with gloves or mittens, remembering to choose a pair that won’t irritate your skin.

  • Remember to eat healthy and stay hydrated.

Sometimes when skin is very dry, it can be helped by foods or supplements that contain omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids, such as fish oil and flaxseed oil, For the most part, however, it is important to help the skin moisturize from the outside.

  • Change out of wet clothes quickly to avoid itchy skin.

Wearing wet clothes and shoes can further irritate your skin and cause itchiness. If gloves, socks, and pants become wet, be sure to remove them as soon as possible. If you still experience dryness, discomfort, and irritation after trying these healthy skin tips, try using an over-the-counter, 1 percent hydrocortisone cream. If you don't see improvement in a few days, talk with your doctor, you may need a prescription-strength moisturizer to overcome winter's drying effects on your skin.

Want to Know How to Achieve That Perfect Summer Body?

Summer is less than a month away, so you might want to start thinking about preparing your body for this beloved season. These tips won’t take too much of your time, but they will require some small changes in your everyday routine.

Eat Healthily:
Forget about all those unhealthy foods you’ve been eating during the winter, and say hello to some healthy choices. Switch your sweets, fast food and processed products for some whole foods. Eat more fruits, nuts, and seeds instead, and you will not only lose some weight but also save up some money you can spend on your summer vacation.

Be Hydrated:

If the harsh summer sun doesn’t agree with your skin, then make sure you’re prepared for it by staying well hydrated, both from the outside and from the inside. There are many skin care products on the market today that will hydrate your skin, but nothing comes close to simply drinking loads of water.
Get Bronzed:
If you want to look like a million bucks at the beach and emphasize your toned body, then you might want to consider getting bronzed. It will make your muscles more visible and defined. You can achieve this effect by tracing a line of tanning lotion from your sternum to your belly button and along the obliques.

Start Your Workout With Some Coffee:

If you need your pre-summer workouts to really be effective, you can seek help from your friend coffee! Coffee will give you some extra energy you need to push harder in the gym, but that’s not all. Research shows that coffee can also offer some protection from the harmful effects of the sun. If you want to use the full potential of your pre-workout caffeine fix, make an iced coffee instead of your regular one. This way, the caffeine will kick in just as you hit the hardest part of your workout.

Make Some Changes To Your Routine:

If you usually end the week with some sugary cocktails or a heavy dinner with your friends, it’s time to ditch that routine. Instead, you can hit a different fitness class every week and have just as much fun, if not more. Or if you just can’t say no to Sunday brunches, make sure you have your workout before. This way you will burn some of the calories in advance.

Hit It With HIIT:
If you want to take advantage of those sunny days and do some workouts outside but aren’t a big fan of running, you can always try some HIIT workouts. They are mostly full-body circuit workouts, and you can do them anywhere you want: at the park, in your backyard or at the beach. You will only need some good gym wearsome sunscreen and a bottle of water. HIIT exercises burn a ton of calories and you will also continue to burn some additional calories even hours after you’ve finished your session, because of the big boost to your metabolism.

Ditch The Carbonated Drinks:

If you don’t want to look bloated at the beach, then better say goodbye to those carbonated drinks. Drink more types of tea such as peppermint and chamomile, or make your own dandelion tea that will do wonders for your stomach. Grate some fresh ginger into hot water; add some lemon juice and some dandelion leaf. Strain and drink when lukewarm. This tea will soothe your stomach and prevent bloating. Perfect for the summer!

As you can see, all these tips are very easy and if you stay persistent, you will be the best-looking person at the beach. If you make these little changes and implement some of these tips into your daily routine, you will get your body ready for the summer in no time
