Why to always remove make-up before bed

As a woman I can definitely say that one of the most annoying things to do is having to remove my makeup before bed. You get home exhausted, ready to lay in bed and then that sad moment  of "Omg I still have makeup on" hits you. ALWAYS remove your make up before bed girls or you'll suffer the consequences I will state below!

1. You WILL break out

If you don't cleanse your face, dirt and dead skin cells are not removed and will stay overnight. They stay on the skin, clogging pores and leading to chronic inflammation in the form of pimples.

2. You'll probably look like a zombie the next morning/ or hideous crows feet!

If you've ever woken up in the morning, looked in the mirror, and wished your skin looked brighter, you not removing your makeup the night before you hit bed is most likely the problem. Oils and dead skin cells on the outermost layers of the skin are matted up against the pillow all night, and natural turnover of this dull epidermal layer is diminished. Regular cleansing and exfoliation are necessary to revealing healthy new skin cells and allowing the natural repair processes of the skin to occur and it could cause crows feet!

3. Your skin will look older — and you'll have more wrinkles.

Dirt and makeup trapped against your skin cause environmentally-induced oxidative damage. This leads to a breakdown of the skin barrier and prematurely ages your face.

4. If you have acne, it'll probably might make it worse.

While cleansing is an important step in anyone's beauty regimen, it's especially key for those who have temperamental skin. For those with oily skin, like acne patients, sleeping in makeup could worsen their skin conditions.

5. You could put yourself at risk for an infection.

While you sleeping in your makeup may not cause an infection,  if you already have an active skin issues, such as an inflamed acne pimple, it's possible that an infection can occur because your skin barrier is compromised.

6. You could develop a rash.

Makeup often contains irritants like dyes and perfumes that, when left on the skin for long periods of time, can cause inflammation especially for those who have sensitive skin.

With 15 + years of experience, this skincare tip is one I mention to my clients often!

The Dangers of Pubic Hair Grooming at Home...

An American Medical Association study found that younger people and hairier men are more likely to injure themselves grooming their pubic hairThe study said only 1.4 percent of resulting injuries require medical attention but those that do are 'severe'
Injuries sustained from grooming include lasceration, burning and rashesThe most popular grooming method was shaving with a nonelectric razor, used by 47.5 percent of study participants

From 'manscaping' in the shower to do-it-yourself Brazilian waxes - millions of Americans are injuring themselves grooming their pubic hair, a new report reveals.
The majority of women (80 percent) and most men (67 percent) trim down there.  But according to new figures from the American Medical Association, a quarter of groomers have suffered severe injuries, with wounds particularly common among younger people and hairier men.

Many have even ended up in hospital requiring surgery and antibiotics.

More than a third of people surveyed by government health researchers admitted they had sustained five or more injuries while grooming.

Many reports have warned of one particularly dangerous technique which seems to be causing the most damage: lying on your back and having others groom your pubic hair.
Laceration was the most common injury, followed by burning and rashes. Shaving is by far the most common method.

A report found that 133 groomers were treated for infections after manicuring their genital area; meanwhile 49 received antibiotics for lacerations and 36 had severe injuries that required surgical intervention. Surgeries include anything from draining absences and stitching up wounds.

For males, scrotum injuries were most common and penile injuries were also frequent. They rarely reported pubis injuries.
But the opposite was true for females, who had a high number of injuries to the pubis. Females also sustained injuries to the inner thigh and vagina.

Injuries can also result in infections and ingrown hairs,  University of California San Diego researchers, who found a five-fold increase in reported injuries from 2002-2010.
A total of 11,704 people landed in the E.R. after waxing, shaving or trimming sessions went awry  and it's a pretty even split between women (56.7%) and men (43.3%).

In the image below is shown the percentage of injuries that occur when pubic hair grooming is done at home incorrectly, with the wrong tools or simply just down incorrectly.

Cystic Acne

When you’re a teenager, it’s not unusual to have a pimple or two. But if you have large, red, and painful breakouts deep in your skin, it could mean you’ve developed something called cystic acne. These breakouts can be treated. Don’t try to wait them out. Cystic Acne can linger for years. It can affect large areas of your skin and leave permanent scars. A dermatologist can help you with a treatment plan.

What Is It?

You get a pimple when a pore in your skin gets clogged, usually with dead skin cells. Sometimes bacteria get trapped inside the pore, too, causing the area to become red and swollen.Cystic acne happens when this infection goes deep into your skin, creating a red, tender bump that's full of pus. It may hurt or itch. If a cyst bursts, the infection can spread, causing more breakouts.

Who Gets It? And Where?

You’re most likely to develop cystic acne in your teens  or early 20s. But it can strike someone as young as 8 or as old as 50. Your face, chest, back, upper arms, or shoulders can be affected. Severe cystic acne is more common in men, but women get it, too. Women often have cysts on the lower half of the face.

What Causes It?

No one is sure of the exact cause, but hormones called androgens play a part. When you’re a teenager, androgens increase. This leads to changes in your skin that can result in clogged pores and acne. In women, hormone changes can be brought on by menstrual cycles, pregnancy, menopause or a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome.
How Is It Treated?

  • Oral antibiotics help control bacteria and lower inflammation. Sometimes your acne may not respond to antibiotics, though. Or you may find they don’t work as well after a few years.
  • Birth-control pills help some women by regulating their hormones.
  • Prescription-strength creams, lotions, or gels with retinoid, a form of vitamin A, can help unplug your pores and help antibiotics do their job.
  • Spironolactone is a medication that helps you get rid of unneeded water, but also is effective for cystic acne in women.

More Advice
Don’t touch cysts or pick at these blemishes. You may push the infection deeper and make it spread.
Try to relax. Stress can cause your body to release more hormones, which can make acne worse.
Follow a healthy lifestyle. Get plenty of sleep and exercise. Some research suggests that a low-glycemic diet, which limits sugar, can help symptoms.

    Acne - Causes and Solutions

Acne is an inflammatory, chronic skin condition, acne causes blackheads, nodules, whiteheads, cysts, and pimples on different parts of your skin. While the disease is not dangerous, it can leave scars on the skin. There are pores in human skin that are linked to the oil glands underneath through follicles, which are sacs that make and secrete a liquid.

The glands also produce sebum, an oily liquid that carries cells of the dead skin to the surface of your skin, through follicles. A small hair grows out of your skin through the follicle. When these follicles are blocked, the oil collects under the skin, resulting in pimples which can grow on shoulders, neck, back, face, and chest. Hair, sebum, and skin cells tend to bundle up into a plug that can be affected by bacteria, resulting in swelling. When this plug starts to break down, a pimple develops in that area. The bacteria contributing to the infection or pimples are called Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). According to research, the frequency and severity of this skin disease depend on the strain of bacteria. All types of acne bacteria do not cause pimples. A particular strain also assists in keeping the skin free of pimples.

    Causes of Acne:
There are a number of things that cause acne, but the major one increases in androgen levels, which happens when adolescence begins. Some other causes of acne include:
    • Hormonal changes
    • Greasy cosmetics
    • Menstruation
    • Medications containing androgen and lithium
    • Stress

    Solutions of Acne:
Although the different types of acne make it essential for you to consult a
dermatologist, here are some medications that doctors usually recommend.
    • Salicylic acid to prevent clogging of pores.
    • Resorcinol to treat blackheads and whiteheads.
    • Sulfur to remove dead skin cells.
    • Benzoyl peroxide to remove excess oil and kill bacteria.
    • Isotretinoin to decrease the production of oil.
    • Antibiotics to kill bacteria.
Other than medications, acne can also be treated by some home remedies such as:
    • Applying some apple cider vinegar
    • Using a honey and cinnamon mask
    • Using tea tree oil
