Why to always remove make-up before bed

As a woman I can definitely say that one of the most annoying things to do is having to remove my makeup before bed. You get home exhausted, ready to lay in bed and then that sad moment  of "Omg I still have makeup on" hits you. ALWAYS remove your make up before bed girls or you'll suffer the consequences I will state below!

1. You WILL break out

If you don't cleanse your face, dirt and dead skin cells are not removed and will stay overnight. They stay on the skin, clogging pores and leading to chronic inflammation in the form of pimples.

2. You'll probably look like a zombie the next morning/ or hideous crows feet!

If you've ever woken up in the morning, looked in the mirror, and wished your skin looked brighter, you not removing your makeup the night before you hit bed is most likely the problem. Oils and dead skin cells on the outermost layers of the skin are matted up against the pillow all night, and natural turnover of this dull epidermal layer is diminished. Regular cleansing and exfoliation are necessary to revealing healthy new skin cells and allowing the natural repair processes of the skin to occur and it could cause crows feet!

3. Your skin will look older — and you'll have more wrinkles.

Dirt and makeup trapped against your skin cause environmentally-induced oxidative damage. This leads to a breakdown of the skin barrier and prematurely ages your face.

4. If you have acne, it'll probably might make it worse.

While cleansing is an important step in anyone's beauty regimen, it's especially key for those who have temperamental skin. For those with oily skin, like acne patients, sleeping in makeup could worsen their skin conditions.

5. You could put yourself at risk for an infection.

While you sleeping in your makeup may not cause an infection,  if you already have an active skin issues, such as an inflamed acne pimple, it's possible that an infection can occur because your skin barrier is compromised.

6. You could develop a rash.

Makeup often contains irritants like dyes and perfumes that, when left on the skin for long periods of time, can cause inflammation especially for those who have sensitive skin.

With 15 + years of experience, this skincare tip is one I mention to my clients often!

Reasons why you shouldn't sleep with Makeup

You shouldn't sleep with makeup because the thought of washing your face at night can sometimes be as appealing as curling up with a textbook. And TBH, you’re not even wearing a lot of makeup so what’s the point, right? Your day-old makeup — plus the sweat and oil that naturally accumulate throughout the day and the pollution and grime from the environment — is standing between you and the complexion of your dreams. It might even be prematurely aging your skin.

Here are some reasons why you shouldn't sleep with makeup on.

You'll break out.
"If you don't cleanse your face, dirt and dead skin cells are not removed," explains celebrity dermatologist Dr. Annie Chiu. "They stay on the skin, clogging pores and leading to chronic inflammation in the form of pimples."

 Your complexion will appear dull.
If you've ever woken up in the morning, looked in the mirror, and wished your skin looked brighter, your lack of cleansing before you hit the bed could be the problem. "Oils and dead skin cells on the outermost layers of the skin are matted up against the pillow all night, and natural turnover of this dull epidermal layer is diminished,"

Your skin will look older — and you'll have more wrinkles."Dirt and makeup trapped against your skin cause environmentally-induced oxidative damage," says Dr. Chiu. "This leads to a breakdown of the skin barrier and prematurely ages your face."

If you have acne, you might make it worse.
While cleansing is an important step in anyone's beauty regimen, it's especially key for those who have temperamental skin. "For those with oily skin, like acne patients, sleeping in makeup could worsen their skin conditions," explains Dr . Chiu.

You could put yourself at risk for an infection.
While the act of sleeping in your makeup may not cause an infection, Dr. Chiu warns that if you already have an active skin abrasion, such as an inflamed acne pimple, it's possible that an infection can occur because your skin barrier is compromised. "Don't forget our skin is our first line of defense against infections," she adds.

You may develop a rash.
"Makeup often contains irritants like dyes and perfumes that, when left on the skin for long periods of time, can cause inflammation," explains Dr. Chiu, adding that those with rosacea or sensitive skin can be especially susceptible.

The Bottom Line
Even if you're super tired, wash your face before heading to bed — your skin will definitely thank you later. Dr. Chiu recommends you do it according to your skin type, although you should probably ask your dermatologist to help you figure out what's right for you if you're not sure.

"Cleanse twice daily. At night, if you wear heavy makeup, start with a quick makeup wipe. If you have normal to dry skin, find a gentle cleanser to lift off impurities, makeup, and dirt. For oilier skin, look for exfoliating cleansers with alpha-hydroxy acids, and for acne-prone skin, consider a topical treatment that contains active ingredient dapsone."

Simple Skincare tips for youthful looking skin

Simple Skincare tips for youthful looking skin. A wrinkle-free, beautiful glowing skin is desired, but not achieved by all. Like anything else, our skin also demands care and attention. Though the conserving time for taking proper care of the skin is difficult in today’s busy schedule, it is not impossible. You only need to dedicate a little time to keeping your skin wrinkle free and beautiful for a longer period. Let’s have a look at ways in which you can protect your skin:
  1. 1. Minimize the skin exposure to the sun: Though sunlight is a major source of vitamin D, overexposure to the sun accelerates the skin aging process. To avoid this, wear a hat, sunglasses, scarves, etc. to keep your skin protected from sunlight. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen lotion before leaving the house to protect the areas of your skin that get exposed to the sun.
  2. Lie on your back– Develop a habit of lying on your back when you sleep, and not on your sites as this restricts the chances of skin damage.
  3. 4. Follow a proper diet: There is no alternative to developing good eating habits when it comes to health, beauty and well being. Your daily food chart should be rich in fruits and vegetables. Fish are also great for the skin, especially oily fish like Salmon. Adopt a healthy and balanced diet as your everyday routine, and your skin will thank you.
  4. 5. Get enough sleep: If you want a beautiful glowing skin, you should get adequate sleep. That is 7-8 hours of shut-eye every night. Inadequate sleep increases the secretion of the hormone cortisol, which negatively impacts the skin.
  5. Use anti-aging products: Not all anti-aging products are effective, but if you use the right products, they can help you keep your skin hydrated, fresh and youthful.

While I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients, I especially love working with teenagers. Adolescents love to genuinely connect with others. Some of the funniest, deepest and most meaningful conversations I have had were with teenagers. Little young adults trying to figure life out.

It’s been a great experience working with teens and has become an area of specialty over the last few years. There are many benefits of facials, but for teens in particular, facials will help clean out blackheads and clogged pores caused by oil production.

Part of getting a Liz Skincare Teen facial is receiving a lesson on how to care for the skin properly. This information includes which products will work best for each person based on his or her skin type and the client will learn how to care for his or her skin at home to maintain the results of a facial.

How often should teens have facials? This truly depends on the skin issues of each teen. Depending on the severity of problem skin, I recommend every 2 weeks for those who have plenty of issues with acne and once a month for maintaining healthy, clear skin.Teaching teens the importance of caring for their skin with regular facials is a great gift that not only affects their appearance, but also their self-esteem.
