How healthy is meditation / yoga for your body ?

The goal of meditation isn't to control your thoughts, its to stop letting them control you.

What is meditation / yoga?

Meditation is a practice where one uses a technique such as their mind, body and soul, to attract a clear state of mind and feel refreshed. This is for the mind to be as clear as a sky can be. Yoga is also a practice where you learn how to control your breathing and ascetic discipline.

Benefits of yoga

The relaxation techniques help with a lot in your body such as
  • Lower back pain
  • headaches
  • arthritis
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
Last but not least will reduce insomnia and lower blood pressure, for those of you that do have it high up there.

Benefits of meditation

These specific practices you do while meditating helps with many different things that you might have going on such as
  • stress
  • compassion
  • sleepless nights
  • not enough focus
  • very moody

If you have any of these, I would highly recommend to start some yoga classes and then let us know how it went and what has improved.

Is Vitamin K is good for the Skin?

Never heard or tried Vitamin K? Well heres what you've been missing out on!

Vitamin K is a vitamin found in leafy green vegetables, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. The name vitamin K comes from the German word “Koagulationsvitamin.”

The basic functions of vitamin K are also thought to help certain skin conditions, such as:

stretch marks
spider veins
scars
dark spots
stubborn circles under your eyes

Vitamin K can be found in many different topical creams for the skin, and it can help treat a variety of skin conditions. Doctors frequently use creams that contain vitamin K on patients who have just undergone surgery to help reduce swelling and bruising. This may help speed up skin healing. However, research on vitamin K’s effects on the skin is more limited than that for vitamins E and C.

Vitamin K is also given to treat and prevent vitamin K deficiency, a condition in which the body doesn’t have enough vitamin K. It is also used to prevent and treat weak bones (osteoporosis) and relieve itching that often accompanies a liver disease called biliary cirrhosis

People apply vitamin K to the skin to remove spider veins, bruises, scars, stretch marks, and burns. It is also used topically to treat rosacea, a skin condition that causes redness and pimples on the face. After surgery, vitamin K is used to speed up skin healing and reduce bruising and swelling.

Healthcare providers also give vitamin K by injection to treat blood clotting problems.

Here at Liz Skincare I sometimes apply vitamin (k) to client's suffering with dark circles or uneven skin patches because of how amazing it is.

Benefits:

It helps minimize and heal bruises quickly.

Bruises can be uncomfortable and unsightly, and for those with mature or compromised skin they’re often a fact of life. Most bruising is caused by weakened blood vessels (also known as capillaries) that break and allow blood to pool in your skin. Vitamin K works to strengthen these capillaries so your bruises heal faster and make your skin less prone to bruising in the first place.

Vitamin K is great for post-procedure skin.

Since vitamin K is one of the best ingredients for healing skin, this makes it great to use when your skin is recovering after a cosmetic procedure. When products containing vitamin K are applied topically after fillers, laser treatments and other procedures, they help to prevent swelling and bruising and let you get back to your daily routine faster.

Vitamin K diminishes dark under eye circles.

When paired with other anti-aging actives like retinol and caffeine, vitamin K helps fade dark circles like nothing else can. Dark circles are often caused by the same weakened capillaries responsible for bruising, and vitamin K not only strengthens those capillaries, but also increases circulation and reduces fluid retention in the under eye area for eyes that look rejuvenated, bright and youthful!

It helps calm redness and inflammation.

Vitamin K improves blood circulation, which in turn helps to reduce inflammation and calm redness. Whether your skin is naturally sensitive or it’s exposed to daily irritants like wind, sun or free radicals from the environment, you can add vitamin K to your routine to soothe redness and calm reactive skin.

How to Deal with Stretch Marks?

What causes stretch marks?

Stretch marks are a result of skin stretching and an increase of cortisone in your system. Cortisone is a hormone naturally produced by your adrenal glands. However, having too much of this hormone can make your skin lose its elasticity.

Stretch marks are common in certain circumstances:

  • Many women experience stretch marks during pregnancy as the skin stretches in numerous ways to make room for the developing baby. This continual tugging and stretching can cause stretch marks.
  • Stretch marks sometimes appear when you rapidly gain or lose weight. Teenagers may also notice stretch marks after a sudden growth spurt.
  • Corticosteroid creams, lotions, and pills can cause stretch marks by decreasing the skin’s ability to stretch.
  • Cushing's Syndrome, Marfan's Syndrome, Ehlers-Danlo's Syndrome, and other adrenal gland disorders can cause stretch marks by increasing the amount of cortisone in your body.

Who is at risk for developing stretch marks?

  • The following put you at greater risk for developing stretch marks:
  • being a woman
  • being Caucasian (having pale skin)
  • having a family history of stretch marks
  • being pregnant
  • having a history of delivering large babies or twins
  • being overweight
  • having dramatic weight loss or gain
  • using corticosteroid medications.

What can I do to treat stretch marks?

There are many products and procedures that promise to remove stretch marks, but there aren’t any that have proven effective so far. Moisturizing your skin may help to relieve the itchiness of stretch marks. Applying self-tanning lotion to your stretch marks is a temporary way to minimize the difference in color between your normal skin and your stretch marks.

How can I prevent stretch marks?

There’s no way to prevent stretch marks completely, even if you regularly use lotions and creams. However, keeping your weight in a healthy range by eating well and exercising regularly can help to prevent stretch marks caused by sudden weight gain or loss.

While it’s healthy for you and your baby to gain weight when you’re pregnant, ask your doctor how much weight gain during pregnancy is right for you.

What medical treatments are available for stretch marks?

Stretch marks often fade with time. If you don’t want to wait, there are treatments that can improve their appearance. However, no treatment can make stretch marks disappear completely.
There are several ways to improve the appearance of stretch marks:
  • Tretinoin Cream (Retin-A, Renova) works by restoring collagen, a fibrous protein that helps give your skin elasticity. It’s best to use this cream on recent stretch marks that are red or pink. This cream may cause skin irritation. If you’re pregnant, you shouldn’t use tretinoin cream.
  • Pulsed dye laser therapy encourages the growth of collagen and elastin. It’s best to use this therapy on newer stretch marks. Darker-skinned individuals may experience skin discoloration.
  • Fractional photothermolysis is similar to pulsed dye laser therapy in that it uses a laser. However, it works by targeting smaller areas of your skin, causing less skin damage.
  • Microdermabrasion involves polishing the skin with tiny crystals to reveal new skin that’s under the more elastic stretch marks. Microdermabrasion can improve the appearance of older stretch marks.
  • The excimer laser stimulates skin color (melanin) production so that stretch marks match the surrounding skin more closely.

Medical procedures and prescription medicines aren’t guaranteed to cure stretch marks, and they can be expensive.

How to treat Back acne?

Your face isn't the only place that acne can develop, it can actually develop in any part of the body that has oil-secureting glands or hair follicles, including back, chest and shoulders. Back acne most commonly referred to as "bacne" can be very troublesome.

While 92 percent of people suffer from facial acne, the 62 percent has back acne and even chest acne.
Having acne on your back and chest is a sign that your acne is more likely to be severe.
Your back, like your face, has numerous sebaceous glands that secrete sebum, an oily substance. Sebum, along with dead skin cells and bacteria, can build up in the hair follicles on your back and clog them. A clogged follicle eventually breaks down and forms an acne lesion.

Types of Back Acne

The types of acne lesions that can occur on your back include:

  • Whiteheads. Whiteheads, also referred to as closed comedones, develop when a plugged follicle stays closed and underneath your skin, forming a white bump.
  • Blackheads. When a plugged follicle is located on the surface of your skin and is open, it forms a blackhead, also referred to as an open comedone. The black-tip appearance of blackheads is due to a reaction between sebum and the air, not because dirt has filled your follicle.
  • Papules. Acne lesions that appear as small pink bumps on your skin and are sometimes tender are called papules.
  • Pustules. Also called a pimple, a pustule is a white or yellow pus-filled papule with a reddened base.
  • Nodules. When an acne lesion develops deep below the surface of your skin, it can harden and form a large, painful nodule.
  • Cysts. Cysts are larger, pus-filled acne lesions that are very painful and can scar the skin.

How can it be Prevented or Treated?

Although you can't control if you get back acne,  because the main factors are out of your control. You can reduce the chances of developing future back acne lesions by:

  • Avoiding certain medications. Some drugs, including androgens (male hormones) and lithium, are known to increase your chances of developing acne. If you are taking any of these medications, talk with your doctor about possible alternative treatments.
  • Limiting your use of oil-based skin care products. Try not to use moisturizers, cosmetics, sunscreens, and any other oily products on your back, because they can lead to back acne flare-ups. Also, look for products labeled non-comedogenic, meaning that they don’t promote blackheads.
  • Eliminating pressure on your back. If you carry a backpack or wear sports equipment, like shoulder pads, that places pressure on your back, try not wearing it for a while or, alternatively, wear a clean cotton T-shirt under it. Prolonged pressure and friction from these objects on your back can trigger certain types of back acne breakouts, called acne mechanica.

Skin Bleaching/ Why do it?

Skin Bleaching

What is face/ body bleaching?

Skin bleaching processes work by reducing a pigment called melanin. By applying the medication to hyper-pigmented areas — parts of the body or face that are visibly darker than others — melanin production is disrupted allowing the skin to lighten and become more uniform. Sometimes, skin lightening products can include exfoliants that induce mild peeling. Since skin tends to regenerate quickly and easily, the peeling helps to clear away dead cells and resurface fresher and lighter layers beneath.

Is it worth it?
There are numerous skin discoloration problems and their causes are even more infinite. The logic behind skin bleaching is to lighten, rid, or improve dark areas of the skin. Small scars, age spots and other pigmentation problems, are a few of the skin flaws that can be improved with skin bleach.
Dark spots are created by cell groupings in the skin that produce excessive amounts of pigment. Skin bleach interferes with pigment production. (Pigment production is also known as the production of melanin). The melanin in skin is created by cells called melanocytes and it is responsible for giving the hair and the skin its color. So a skin bleach hinders the production of melanin. The skin is left with an even skin tone, when the body is unable to manufacturer melanin to the treated areas. So to me it is worth it!

Steps to face and body bleaching

Well, depending on your skin tone the treatment may vary.

Here are some basic steps we do here at Liz Skincare:

  • Exfoliate
  • Bleach
  • Polish

Advantages:-
  • It provides instant skin lightening
  • It provides glowing skin
  • It helps to fade away dark spots and blemishes
  • It improves the skin texture

Disadvantages:-
  • Bleaching cream has hydroquinone. But, Using more than 2% hydroquinon in bleaching creams can have side effects on the skin.
  • Some of the bleaching creams have mercury as an ingredient.Mercury can become poisonous when it accumulates in the skin.
  • Bleaching can make your skin sensitive to sun exposure.
  • There is always a risk of allergic reaction.
  • The application of skin bleach can impair our skin to heal from injuries, rashes and skin issues.

Tips on Dry or Oily skin.

If you have combination skin, then you know what the term “T-zone” means. In fact, you may sometimes feel like your skin has a split personality—oily with large pores on the forehead, nose, and chin, and dry and sometimes even flaky on the cheeks and under the eyes.
You don’t have to feel badly, though—combination skin is thought to be the most common type of skin out there. That probably doesn’t help you when you’re trying to figure out how to take care of the dryness on your cheeks without breaking out on your nose, though, right?
If you’re someone who is constantly frustrated at trying to make both parts of your skin happy, here are some tips and solutions for you.Related image
If you’re someone who is constantly frustrated at trying to make both parts of your skin happy, here are some tips and solutions for you.
WHAT IS COMBINATION SKIN?
Combination skin is just what the name implies—skin that is a combination of both dry and oily types. If you drew a big “T” on your face, all the skin under that T would likely be oily, while the areas left outside the T are dry and potentially flaky. That’s why we use the term “T-zone” when referring to those with combination skin.
Combination skin also means that you may have fine lines and wrinkles and shininess and clogged pores at the same time. You may also experience uneven skin tone or large pores on your nose. Of course this combination of characteristics and problems can make combination skin particularly difficult to deal with.

WHAT CAUSES COMBINATION SKIN?
No matter what kind of skin you have (dry, oily, combination, or sensitive), it’s most likely because of genetics. Just like you inherit your eye color, hair color, and body type from your parents and grandparents, you also inherit your skin type.
In general, the nose, chin, and forehead of those with combination skin have more active oil glands, which is why these areas may be prone to clogged pores. The cheeks, on the other hand, may have less active oil glands, which is why they may appear dry and flaky.

LIFESTYLE FACTORS TO HELP COMBINATION SKIN

Combination skin types can benefit from some lifestyle changes that may help balance your skin. These include:
  • Moisturize from the inside out. A challenge with combination skin is to get enough moisturizer into it without clogging pores. You can moisturize from the inside out with essential fatty acids. Eat more salmon, walnuts, and flaxseed, and consider taking a fish oil or flaxseed oil supplement.
  • Avoid harsh cleansers. Things like sulfates, alcohol and soap can strip your skin of its natural oils. You may think that will help your T-zone, but in truth, it will actually encourage it to produce more oil. Stay away from harsh, chemical ingredients.
  • Exercise. This gets the blood pumping, which delivers key nutrients to your skin.
  • Practice stress relief. Stress can make your skin more reactive, both the oily and dry areas. Try meditation, yoga, tai chi, journaling, music, whatever works for you.
  • Avoid pore-clogging products. In your skin care and makeup products, always choose those that are made for oily or combination skin. Avoid petroleum-based moisturizers like mineral oil in all your products, particularly moisturizers and foundations.
  • Choose fragrance-free. Your cheeks are likely to be prone to dryness, dullness, and flaking, and may also be more prone to irritation. Avoid products with chemical fragrances and other irritating ingredients.
  • Protect. Like all skin types, your skin needs protection from the environment, particularly from damaging UV rays. Hats and shade are best, but also choose a safe sunscreen to keep your fragile cheeks looking lively and youthful.
