Moisturize. Many acne products contain ingredients that dry the skin, so always use a moisturizer that minimizes dryness and skin peeling. Look for "noncomedogenic" on the label, which means it should not cause acne. There are moisturizers made for oily, dry, or combination skin.

Stressing on a regular basis, can cause pigmentation issues on the skin.

I have been flooded with numerous queries lately on ”skin whitening”

 Remember STOP stressing
Don’t Blame it all on the Sun.

The sun is responsible for most skin hyper-pigmentation, hence the nickname “sun damage.” But don’t blame it all on the sun. Stress, hormones, diet and inflammation from any trauma can all cause skin hyperpigmentation. Melasma, for example, is almost always caused by something other than the sun.

Well what about stress? Well, there are two stress hormones: epinephrine and norepinephrine, that are both dependent on Tyrosine. When you become stressed, cortisol rises and Tyrosinase is used to produce more of these stress hormones. Because your body cannot distinguish between the stress of a life threatening emergency and the stress over a final exam, it responds in the same way regardless of the circumstance. Stressing on a regular basis, therefore, depletes your body and could lead to issues with skin hyperpigmentation (among many other unpleasant skin issues.)

How to prevent pigmentation issues on the skin!

Always wear a sunscreen, especially during pregnancy or when you take oral contraceptives.

Try to stay in the shade during intense sunlight, especially between 10 am and 2 pm.

Gently cleanse skin, and use warm water to open your pores.

Gently exfoliate and then moisturize your skin every day.

Remember that some drugs like birth control pills and sleeping pills can cause pigmentation; the effects of these drugs should stop when you quit taking them.

Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition that is indicated by usually small darker patches on the skin. This occurrence is one of the signs of unhealthy skin, but it is not harmless and doesn’t lead to some complicated skin conditions. However, dark skin patches can often affect our confidence, and we tend to consider every imperfection as unappealing. The appearance of hyperpigmented areas doesn’t have to be final, and it is possible to repair your skin, even though it might not seem like it at first. In this blog post, I will discuss hyperpigmentation and several ways of repairing your skin.

Causes of Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is characterized by the appearance of dark spots that vary in shape and color from light brown to black. These dark skin patches usually appear on face and hands, but can often appear on some other body parts as well.

It occurs due to excessive production of melanin. Melanin is the pigment which gives human skin, eyes, and hair their natural color. For example, dark-skinned people have a higher level of melanin than light-skinned people. Due to excessive production of melanin dark patches on the skin appear.

Types of hyperpigmenation

It is widely believed that all dark patches of the skin are associated with age spots. The truth is age spots are just one type of hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation has several types and some of them are:
  • Age spots – as it was mentioned above, age spots are the just type of hyperpigmentation. They are also called liver spots and usually appear as a reaction to a long-term exposure to sun’s harmful UV rays or tanning beds.
  • Melasma – is indicated by tan or brown patches usually located on person’s face. It usually occurs in pregnant women (it affects about 90% of pregnant women), and that is why it’s well-known by the name mask of pregnancy. However, men can also develop this condition.
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation – occurs when skin injury heals and leaves a discolored area of the skin behind. Acne sufferers are prone to this type of hyperpigmentation.

If after a few times of trying the recipe and still not happy it may just mean that you need aggressive treatments like a chemical peel, but must be done by a licensed professional. The chemical peels consist of glycolic acid with tri-chloro acetic acid which help to remove the superficial layers from the top of the skin and thus the dark spots get worn out.. So go ahead and try it out.. if not content seek a professional chemical peel. This is one of my favorite treatments because I love to record the progress being made and seeing clients happy.
